Core Features
Secure Audio Recording with Transcription
UltraLocked lets you record encrypted voice memos with real-time waveform visualization. Apple's on-device Speech Recognition transcribes your recordings automatically—no audio ever leaves your device.
Recording Voice Memos
To start a secure audio recording:
- Open your vault and tap the + button
- Select Voice Recording
- Grant microphone permission if prompted
- Tap the Record button to begin
While recording, you'll see a live 50-bar waveform that responds to your voice in real-time. Louder sounds create taller bars, giving you visual feedback that audio is being captured.
On-Device Transcription
After you stop recording, UltraLocked automatically transcribes your audio using Apple's Speech Recognition framework. This transcription happens entirely on your device:
- No cloud processing — Your voice never leaves your phone
- No internet required — Works completely offline
- Automatic language detection — Supports multiple languages
- Expandable transcript — View the full text in the audio detail view
Transcription Permissions
Speech Recognition requires a separate permission from microphone access. If you decline this permission, recordings will still work—you just won't get automatic transcription.
Playback Controls
When viewing a recorded audio file, you have full playback controls:
- Play/Pause — Start and stop playback
- Progress bar — Seek to any point in the recording
- Time display — See current position and total duration
- Transcript view — Expand to read the full transcription
Security Features
Your audio recordings receive the same hardware-backed encryption as all vault files:
- Secure Enclave encryption — AES-256-GCM with hardware-protected keys
- Perfect Forward Secrecy — Each recording has unique ephemeral keys
- TTL timers — Set recordings to auto-delete after a specified time
- Metadata stripping — No location or device data stored
Tips for Best Results
- Speak clearly — On-device transcription works best with clear speech
- Minimize background noise — Quieter environments improve accuracy
- Check the waveform — If bars aren't moving, check your microphone
- Use headphones — Prevents audio feedback when reviewing recordings
